From 20 June to 4 July 2026, MTF STU researchers Ing. Martin Sahul, PhD., Ing. Patrik Šulhánek, PhD., and the Vice-Dean of MTF STU for Strategic Projects and Mobility, Ing. Libor Ďuriška, PhD., visited research institutions of the Italian National Research Council (Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche – CNR) and the University of Naples Federico II.
During the visit, working meetings were held with CNR-STEMS researchers Dr. Michela Alfè and Dr. Valentina Gargiulo. The professional programme included the preparation and analysis of metal-organic framework (MOF) samples, as well as discussions on the results achieved to date and further opportunities for joint research in this field. Ing. Libor Ďuriška, PhD., completed a secondment within the Horizon MSCA project entitled “Novel optical nanocomposite sensors for analysis of micro and macro elements in corn plants”.
At the CNR facilities, superalloy samples produced by Laser Metal Deposition (LMD) were also analysed. The sample analyses, evaluation of the results achieved to date, and expert discussions on the future direction of the research were related to the implementation of project VV-MVP-24-0334, “Research on wire laser additive manufacturing of aerospace superalloys” (Ing. Martin Sahul, PhD.).
Another part of the programme focused on the research and testing of lithium-ion batteries. Ing. Libor Ďuriška, PhD., and Ing. Patrik Šulhánek, PhD., met with members of the research group led by Dr. Clemente Capasso at CNR-STEMS. The expert discussions focused primarily on the degradation and ageing mechanisms of lithium-ion batteries, their experimental testing, and battery energy storage systems. These activities were also related to project No. 09I04-03-V02-00046, “Ageing and dynamic effects in lithium-ion batteries”.
During their visit to the University of Naples Federico II, Ing. Martin Sahul, PhD., and Ing. Libor Ďuriška, PhD., met with Prof. Antonio Gloria and Dr. Romolo Di Bernardo. The discussions focused on additive manufacturing, the 3D printing of metallic materials, and the possibilities for comprehensive characterisation of the produced samples. The main objective of the meeting was to expand international cooperation and create opportunities for joint research activities within project VV-MVP-24-0334.
The professional visit contributed to the exchange of knowledge and experience in the fields of advanced materials, lithium-ion batteries, and additive manufacturing. It also created new opportunities for developing cooperation between MTF STU, CNR research institutions, and the University of Naples Federico II in the implementation of ongoing projects and the preparation of further joint research activities.
