On the 11th- 12th of October 2012 on the premises of the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology in Trnava of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (hereinafter "MTF STU") held its 20th International Scientific Conference of CO-MAT-TECH 2012 entitled "Global Crisis - opportunities and threats." The conference was organized by the institute of Industrial Engineering, Management and Quality (hereinafter "UPMK"). The MTF STU, in cooperation with the civic association of VIVAEDUCA, held under the auspices of the Minister of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic, doc. PhDr Dušan Čaplovič, DrSc. The conference was dedicated primarily to managers and employees of companies, scientific research workers, university teachers and students, employees of state and government administration and also to the wide scientific and professional community. The conference was inaugurated by the Dean of the MTF STU - Prof. Dr. Ing. Oliver MORAVČÍK and the director of UPMK - doc. Ing. Miloš Cambal, CSc. On behalf of the Minister of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic, the opening ceremony was attended by RNDr. Marta CIMBÁKOVÁ, Chief State Advisor of the Office of the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic.
The conference was divided into a plenary part and so-called parallel parts - sections A, B, C, D. The main program of the conference consisted of plenary - presentations from key speakers such as:

The plenary session was led by doc. Mgr. Dagmar CAGÁŇOVÁ, PhD. from the MTF STU. During the two days of the conference renowned lecturers were present, they were not only from Slovakia, but also from abroad (Poland, Great Britain, Austria, Germany, Sweden, Portugal, Kazakhstan, Italy, Bulgaria and Hungary, etc..) – Practitioners and academic specialists presented the participants with current knowledge related to the issue of management challenges, as well as suggestions for possible solutions to the problems identified within the main themes of the conference. The conference and accompanying events sounded a total of 45 lectures and discussions. It was attended by more than 370 participants from 11 countries.
This scientific event also had a formal section, which was dedicated to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Department of engineering industry, who’s successor today's is UPMK and also a section titled "Ph.D. Competition in the Automotive Sector Winner's Day. " In celebration of the 60th anniversary contributions were presented by important graduates of the Jubilee department and the institute: doc. Ing. Rudolf Burc, CSc., doc. Ing. Eva Doubková, CSc., Ing. Zděnek Vavřík, Ing. Ondrej Strnád, CSc., Ing. Bohumil Zlocha, Ing. Tibor Pint, Ing. Augustín Hambálek, Ing. Edita Filipová, Ing. Ľuboš Lopatka, PhD., Ing. Jozef Bachratý a Ing. Pavol Jurčík, PhD.
In the section "Ph.D. Competition in the Automotive Sector Winner's Day" contributions were presented by doctoral students, while awards for the top three places were given during the plenary session of the conference.
A co-part of the conference were interviews with Prof. Dr. Ing. Oliver Moravčík, Dean of the MTF STU, doc. Ing. Milos Cambal,CSc., Director UPMK- Ing. Martina Jakabova, PhD.- Chair of the conference’s Organizing Committee and Prof. Ing. Alexander Linczényi,CSc.-Emeritus professor of the MTF. Another accompanying event of the conference was a presentation stand of UPMK and the MTF STU and informal meetings, where participants established new friendships and gained contacts in order to develop further cooperation in selected topics and cooperation with the business environment and practices.
