In deep sorrow we announce to the
academic community of the FMST SUT in
Trnava, that on the
8th of
December 2010 at the age of 85 years our external co-worker and friend of our faculty Ing. William Ruza, CSc.
departed.
He was our most important expert in the field of soldering, he was also highly acclaimed abroad. He was a long time chairman of the whole state of the Expert Group of soldering Nationwide, based in Prague and later chairman of the expert group within the Slovak soldering and Welding Society.
He laid the foundations for soldering theory and created a new soldering Slovak terminology in the field. As a researcher in the Welding Research Institute he solved many technical problems for industry and contributed significantly to the theoretical enrichment of technology in soft and hard soldering.
Till the end of his life he had many publications and had active cooperation with the Department of welding at our faculty in both research and teaching areas. As one of the few workers of VUZ Bratislava he worked intensively in professional work after his retirement. All his knowledge is now left to future generations. Unforgettable are his lectures on postgraduate studies in welding (as the first postgraduate course in Czechoslovakia), lectures at the International Welding course IWE (International Welding Engineer), as well as in important conferences at home and abroad. He was a long time member of the Commission of Soldering (Soldering and Brazing) IWI (International Welding Institute). From a large number of publications, his book on Soldering, SNTL, 1988 (translated into Czech) is used as a national textbook in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
His favourite sport was tennis, which he was devoted to till the end of his life.
A last farewell to the deceased will be on Tuesday, 14.12.2010 in Bratislava crematorium at 12:00.
