On the 02.04.2012 the ceremonial opening of the joint work place of the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology of the STU and the Institute of materials and mechanics of machines of the Slovak Academy of science took place.
The opening work was attended by the President of the Slovak Academy of Sciences Prof. RNDr. Jaromir Pastorek DrSc., Vice Rector of the STU Prof. Ing. Stanislav Biskupic,DrSc., the Dean of the MTF STU Prof. Dr. Ing. Oliver Moravčík, Director of ÚMMS SAV Dr. Ing. Frantisek Simančík as well as other workers of the STU and SAV. The workplace is particularly focused on the preparation of special kinds of metallic and ceramic materials. In laboratory, set in the Institute of Materials and Machine Mechanics SAS in Bratislava Račianska Street, there are special and in Slovakia, unique technological devices such as an isostatic press for hot and cold work, a plasma furnace which is designed for the preparation of metals and alloys with a high melting point. The co –part of the laboratory is also a melting furnace, allowing the melting and casting of metal alloys in a vacuum or in special atmospheres.
