The Minister of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic - Dušan Čaplovič, in Bratislava, awarded scientists and scientific teams for their work and exceptional results . The Awards ceremony took place during the10th anniversary of the Week of Science and Technology in Slovakia .
The Minister of Education Dušan Čaplovič gave awards to 15 scientific personalities and four research teams in four categories, namely Personality of Science and Technology, Science and Technology Team of the Year, Personality of science and technology below 35 years of age, and Lifelong achievements in science and technology. Successful candidates were chosen by an expert committee based on nominations by representatives of various sectors of research and development. .
During the ceremony other awards were presented – The Award of MR Stefanik for the greatest asset in the field of bilateral Slovak- French scientific and technological cooperation in 2013, Award of Slovak Rectors' Conference for the Arts 2013, Propagator of science and technology in 2013, and the Award of Aurel Stodola.
The team of the year award was won by a joint department of the MTF STU in Trnava and the Institute of Materials and Machine Mechanics of SAV in Bratislava for research and development of advanced metallic materials and composites.
The Award Personality of science and Technology was awarded to Visiting Professor Ing. Ludovit Kupča, CSc. from the company VÚJE , a.s. Trnava, for a significant contribution in solving theoretical problems of monitoring the state of construction materials, important safety components of the VVER nuclear power plant and their successful application in practice .
