Centre of Excellence of the MTF STU in Trnava
Top technologies in the hands of researchers and students
The MTF STU in Trnava belongs to one of the best educational institutions in the field of Slovak technical university education. Proof of it’s outstanding position is that two Centres of Excellence were built on the grounds of the MTF STU. Slovakia has 45 Centres of Excellence (CE) which support research and development.
Centre of Excellence for the development and application of diagnostic methods during the processing of materials.
Doc. Ing. Lubomir Caplovic, CSc. Said, ‘ the centre is aimed at improving the educational process and services which demand the use of modern analytical methods which utilize the interaction of electron and laser radiation with solid matter and others.
The centre for the development and application of progressive diagnostic methods when processing materials was created with the support of the structural funding of OPVaV in priority axis no. 2
CE has a workplace of microscopic techniques, a mechanical test site, and a workplace for the analysis of non-metallic materials.
The head of the second MTF CE is the Vice-dean of the MTF STU in Trnava- Prof. Dr. Ing. Jozef Peterka, he said “ the aim of our CE is the realization of scientific research projects, elaboration of Bachelor diploma and dissertation theses were the students themselves cooperate with the measuring testing procedures of 5 axis machining. The 5 axis technologies of machining belong to the highest class of high-tech in the world. The last contribution in our CE is the instalment of a laser robotic welder. These high technologies are connected with CAD CAM software technologies which serve for suggesting the design of complicated components and for generating programs for CNC machines.
The new ultra modern building of the Centre of Excellence 5 Axis Machining is divided into the following parts:
Educational, theoretical preparation and production.
An optical 3D scanner serves for the digitization of complex shape areas.
The robotic laser-welding unit at the workplace has a capacity of 2kW and it is planned to be increased to 4 kW in the future. The unit’s construction has double insulation and therefore it meets high EU Health and Safety standards.
