2.30 p.m. – 3.00p.m. Discussion
The Joint Research Centre is a section of the European Commission working as a reference centre for science and technology in the Union. The role of the JRC is to provide independent research and technical support for design, development, implementation and monitoring of policies of the European Union. The activity has direct influence on the lives of citizens because of its contribution of research results to provide a healthy and secure environment, the safety of the energy supply, sustainable mobility and the protection of health and safety of consumers.
JRC is based on more than 50 years of research knowledge and it forms its own knowledge through seven research institutes which are equipped with specialized laboratories and unique research units. These institutes are located in Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain.
While the most of research activity of the JRC serves the European Commission, JRC also solves important social challenges and it works to stimulate innovations and development of new methods, tools and standards. JRC shares its knowledge and it cooperates with the member states, the research community and international partners. It cooperates also with thousands of organisations around the whole world where scientists have access to much equipment of the JRC via agreements for cooperation.
The Joint Research Centre offers temporary and permanent job opportunities as well as professional training for research and technical employees. Work at JRC is unique because of cultural variability, multidisciplinary research areas as well as top research equipment.
