On November 8-16, 2025, an official STU delegation to South Korea took place, attended by Assoc. Prof. Ing. Martin Rebroš, PhD. (STU Vice-Rector for Science, Research and Foreign Projects), Ing. Libor Ďuriška, PhD. (Vice-Dean of the MTF STU for Strategic Projects and Mobility) and Assoc. Prof. Ing. Ladislav Morovič, PhD. (Deputy Director of the Institute of Production Technologies of the MTF STU for Foreign and Internal Relations).
The organization of the delegation was overseen by Ing. Katarína Krekulová from the STU Department of International Relations in close cooperation with Ing. Anton Uhnák, who has been working in the field of university and industrial cooperation for a long time as the chairman of the Czech-Korean committee. His systematic work on the development of Slovak-Korean relations significantly contributed to the successful course of the entire delegation.
The delegation also included 10 master and doctoral students from the faculties of MTF STU, FEI STU, FIIT STU, FCHPT STU and SjF STU, who had a unique opportunity to participate in a rich professional and cultural program. Five students participated in the delegation from MTF STU: Ing. Diana Fabušová, Ing. Juraj Nálepka, Bc. Matej Kubiš, Bc. Samuel Kliment and Bc. Juraj Kružliak.
During the visit to South Korea, the delegation visited several important universities and research institutions:
- Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) – the main partner institute of STU, where the delegation had the opportunity to see the laser workplace with the highest laser beam intensity in the world in regular operation,
- Sun Moon University in Asan,
- Pusan National University in Pusan, the second largest city in South Korea,
- University of Seoul in the capital city of Seoul.
The program at the individual workplaces was designed extremely effectively. While STU representatives attended official meetings, university presentations and expert discussions on further cooperation in research and mobility, the students visited top laboratories and university campuses and established direct contacts with Korean researchers. The main expert topics focused mainly on materials research, new production technologies and applied research.
The delegation also participated in the prestigious Korea Nuclear Exhibition 2025 in Changwon, within which Assoc. Prof. Ing. Martin Rebroš, PhD., Ing. Libor Ďuriška, PhD. and Assoc. Prof. Ing. Ladislav Morovič, PhD. gave an interview to the Korean media, as well as in a short visit to selected pavilions and exhibitions in the area of the former EXPO 2012 world exhibition in Yeonsu during the transfer to the city of Gwangju.
An integral part of the program was also a cultural experience. Students participated in a traditional Korean experience event, where they tried on historical Hanbok clothing. The delegation also participated in a symbolic act, when students wrote a wish on a commemorative tile, expressing goodwill, mutual understanding and commitment to further developing the partnership between STU and Korean institutions.
The STU delegation to South Korea in 2025 was extremely successful – it brought new professional impulses, valuable international experience for students and staff, and especially concrete results for the further development of STU's cooperation with Korean academic and research partners.
At the event, a photo documentation was taken, which will be published on the faculty's website (www.mtf.stuba.sk).
