The Slovak University of Technology (STU) in Bratislava comprises seven faculties. The Faculty of Materials Science and Technology (MTF) with the campus in Trnava is one of them. It educates versatile and flexible graduates who perform successfully in a wide scope of professions.
Besides Trnava, the Faculty provides bachelor study in the detached workplace located in Dubnica nad Váhom to satisfy the occupational needs of the job market. There students study two semesters and after continue of study in Trnava. The education has to be accomplished in Trnava.
The Faculty admits applicants based on the generally binding legislation and the STU MTF internal legislation – Dean’s Regulation approved by the Faculty Academic Senate for the current academic year. In the admission process, the involvement of recruitment agencies/entities is neither expected nor desirable. Applicants are required to follow the instructions for study application publicised on the Faculty website and, if necessary, communicate exclusively with the STU MTF Registrar’s Section.
What is the study system at MTF?
Degree 1:
Bachelor degree, full-time, duration: 3 years, title granted: Bachelor (Bc.)
Degree 2:
master degree, full-time duration: 2 years, title granted: Engineer (Ing.)
Degree 3:
doctoral degree, full-time duration: 4 year, part-time duration: 5 years, title granted: Doctor of Philosophy (PhD.)
The bachelor degree is completed by the state exam. Having passed the exam successfully, the graduate is granted the academic title of a "Bachelor" (Bc) and can either continue the study within the master degree, or leave the Faculty. In the former case, students can sign for the master programmes in the end of the third year.
Master degree is completed by the state exam after a two-year study. Having passed the exam successfully, the graduate is granted the academic title of an "Engineer" (Ing).

Accomodation and free time
The Faculty has implemented the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS).
Basic criteria apply for securing accommodation in student dormitories. Students of the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology can apply for accommodation at the Student Dormitory in Trnava, which also provides catering services. The monthly accommodation fee ranges from €80 to €90.
Students have access to a wide range of sports and recreational facilities located on campus, including a gymnasium, fitness centre, indoor tennis courts, swimming pool, and sauna, as well as outdoor sports fields and athletics tracks.
Students can also socialize and spend their free time in the student club. Access to all the above-mentioned facilities is free of charge.
Placement rate of graduates
Bachelor degree graduates can be successfully placed in the engineering and managerial positions in industry, services and business.
Master degree graduates will find jobs as senior workers in the field of research and development, production, as well as in the services and management of the state and private enterprises.

Graduates of the MTF STU are the most sought-after on the labor market - according to the assessment of the Profesia.sk portal, which regularly publishes a ranking of the attractiveness of graduates of public universities in Slovakia. The ranking was published in 2025 and was created based on data on the views of graduates' CVs by companies during 2024. The Faculty of Materials Technology of the STU in Trnava moved up four places in this rating and currently occupies 1st place among all faculties of public universities.
The Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava leads among universities, having returned to the top of the ranking after two years.
