The research at the Institute of Applied Informatics, Automation and Mechatronics (UIAM) of the Slovak University of Technology is focused on the areas of Automation and ICT implementation of the control processes at all levels of control in enterprise. It reflects modern trends in controlling of the processes according to the pyramid model of control.
The basic strategy of the research management at UIAM is strictly based on the requirements of the European legislation on harmonising the processes for hierarchical control systems development and operation, as well as on the requirements for vertical integration of information control systems.
The research orientation of UIAM stems from the effort of meeting the global objectives of human civilisation development:
- By applying the automation in the highest possible level contributing to reducing the energy consumption and its direct impact on the ecology development,
- By the consistent elaborating the general requirements formulated in the international standards, carrying out the safety critical control systems development having an impact on improving the safety and health protection,
- By modelling and testing complex software products, enhancing the efficiency of development, operation and maintaining the hierarchical systems for process control.
On the basis of these principles, the research at UIAM is oriented on the following areas:
- Analysis, modelling, simulation and optimization of the production systems and processes,
- Big Data and knowledge acquisition for the process control,
- Integrated industry process control systems development,
- Implementation of the intelligent control methods and analysis and data processing methods,
- Research and development in the fields of modelling, simulation, and technology process and mechanic and mechatronic system analysis,
- Robotic system control,
- Control systems for safety-critical processes in industry,
- Automation applications (in automotive industry, energetics, engineering, medicine etc.).
The scientific profile of UIAM is consistent with the trends defined by the Industry 4.0 concept.
The Institute of Applied Informatics, Automation and Mechatronics operates the Scientific centre of Automation and ICT Implementation in Production Processes (AIVPS) as a flexible system of automated control of technology and production systems.
The aim of the centre is establish a strong regional centre of excellence, primarily focused on automotive and electronics industries widely represented in region (VW, PSA Peugeot-Citroën, ZF Sachs, Boge Rubber and Plastics etc.). AIVPS centre is about to significantly support the transfer of innovations into the industrial entities.
