The 9th International Doctoral Seminar (IDS), organised by the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology with the seat in Trnava, the Slovak University of Technology, was for the second time co-organised with a foreign university, The University of Zielona Góra Poland (UZG). The Seminar venue was the Hotel Qubus in Zielona Góra.
For the first time was IDS co-organised with the Faculty of Organisation and Informatics, Varaždin, University of Zagreb, Croatia in May 2013.
The Seminar was organised for the PhD students who could present the results of their dissertation theses in the area of Engineering Technologies, Materials Engineering, Applied Informatics and Automation in Industry, Industrial Engineering, Management and Quality, and Environmental and Safety Engineering.
Out of 49 PhD students registered in the conference, 35 were of STU MTF, and 14 from UZG Poland (coorganizer of IDS) and from abroad (Germany, Czech Republic, and Russia). Simultaneously, we had an opportunity to welcome 15 foreign PhD supervisors, professors and the guests from the universities and research institutes from Croatia, Germany, and Poland, e.g.:

The event was opened by Prof. Dr. Ing. Oliver Moravčík, Dean of STU MTF. There were two plenary talks delivered by Hon. prof. Dr. h.c. Rolf Pfrengle ( IFW Dresden, Germany) and Prof. Dr Ing. Slawomir Nikiel (UZG, Poland).
The conference programme comprised the students’ presentations in the English language in individual professional sections chaired by associate professors and professors, mainly:

The PhD students participating in IDS 2014 have gained valuable experience in elaborating scientific presentations and particularly in presenting their scientific theses in the English language. At the same time, they could set up professional and personal contacts and compare the results of their research with the colleagues of other universities.
Upon the proposals of individual section chair, the Closing Ceremony was associated with awarding the best student contributions in individual sections.
The professional part of the Seminar was complemented by social events (dinner and a trip to the scansen Ochla and Botanical Garden), which were warmly welcome by domestic and also foreign participants.
